basketball looks
from tonight’s heat/bobcats game
*dwyane wade picked a pass coming up the left sideline toward half court where gerald wallace closed at the basket and had the chance to make a defensive play. in what i think gave him nightmares of his collision with gilbert arenas, gerald pulled back and gave wade the easy layup. he better get over that quickly, even if vacation is imminent and the extra phone lines are installed while gm’s salivate over his free agency.
*seeing walter herrmann display the paws on his jorge gervin impression confirmed all the rumours. i can’t give him back the four steps he took from the three point line to get the up and under finger roll or the idea that he may be the argentine version of the boys from brazil. straight up, the last big man i saw make a move like that without getting it called was tom chambers back in the lakers/celtics days on the genesis.

tv
*the espn nba studio team is often tough to take because they’re not smooth and jelled like the men on tnt, but whomever thought that three hours of this on nba coast to coast overestimated. it’s good information, but mix in some segments, some filmed pieces and present the games with a little more than cutting to the nbaTV feed and then coming back.
do marc stein and ric bucher get stored in a secret location with cheney in between their segments? are they really about 8 feet off camera like on the daily show?
get some interesting personalities on the show who know the game and can carry on a conversation without a level of discomfort last seen…here.

*it’s insane how many pistons games i have to watch when one of the HD channels or espn decides to pickup a game. as a heat and magic fan, it’s frustrating since the former rarely appears on central florida cable outside of national games. on the bright side the magic are often on tv, but not full HD often enough. honestly, the pistons are good, but far from interesting to watch when there are much more entertaining teams like the raptors who never get air time.
misc
*brian hill has to be on his way out from the magic. new coach with some real energy and direction. go to work with your five best players on the floor at a given time and then coach with that. cycle in hedo, darko, ariza and a yet to be named forward like the gators. no one complains about minutes when they’re productive and winning.
*i wanted to write something funny from the perspective of or about the two white players on the rutgers women’s team, but couldn’t manage to do it without it being in poor taste. there’s something there, but not without it being more negativity right now.
